San Diego, known as the birthplace of California, offers a mild climate year round, an impressive deep-water harbor and extensive culture. The city is surrounded on one side by the Pacific Ocean and on another by the Mexican border. Tourism is one of the prime industries in San elephantDiego, in part because of the rich sophistication and vast bay. There is a lot to explore for those taking advantage of San Diego vacation rentals, but if it is your first time there, consider these three attractions as a must see.

The San Diego Zoo

Of all the tourist spots in the city, the San Diego Zoo is probably one of the most visited. It houses over 3,700 animals including more than 650 different species. The 100-acre lush landscape offers bio-climatic exhibits like the Tiger River, the African Rainforest, Arctic Tundra and the Monkey Trails. It is home to the largest free-flight aviary in the world.

While at the zoo, make sure to visit the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for even more wildlife. This site manages an array of endangered species and consists of free-range enclosures. The Safari Park maintains antelopes, giraffe and rhinos among its inhabitants. It hosts the most successful California condor breeding program in the country, as well.

The Waterfront

The San Diego waterfront is the essence of the city. It is the primary reason many people visit San Diego in the first place. The Waterfront starts in the downtown area and goes on to Seaport Village. While strolling on the piers, you’ll see cruise ships like the Star of India and Navy vessels waiting to go out. The Waterfront is full of shopping venues and fine dining restaurants. You can grab a ferry to Coronado, take a walking tour to learn about the vessels in dock or visit San Diego’s famous Embarcadero.

Legoland California

No one can resist the fun of Legoland. This theme park features over 60 different attractions including thrilling water rides and live shows. Inside the park, you will find more than 22,000 models created from Lego bricks. Legoland California includes entire replications of cities as part of the landscape. The creation of the park required over 57 million Lego pieces. The exhibits are interactive and geared towards kids, ages two to 12. The park sits just on the north edge of the city in Carlsbad.

San Diego has a little something for everyone. Museums, live shows, the bay and the beaches all make this a popular destination when visiting California. The city welcomes over 30 million people travelling to see them annually. It is possible to stay in San Diego vacation rentals each year and see something new every time.

Keeping In Touch With The Family: Tips For The Traveling Employee

In today’s global economy, it’s not uncommon for employees to be called away from home for business. Corporate traveling may sound enjoyable, but those who travel on a regular basis, or for long periods of time, know that extended absence comes with a price. In addition to the physical toll, being away from home also impacts personal relationships, especially with spouses and children.

Fortunately, we live in a world where technology brings people closer together, and where creativity is lauded with notably uplifting results. In the list below, we offer creative solutions for the traveling employee to stay connected with family while on the road, and to make corporate traveling an interactive experience that everyone can take part in.

Get some Face Time
Video chat programs and webcams allow users the opportunity to see and be seen. Schedule a video chat during breakfast or right before bedtime to catch up on the day’s events. With the right system, callers can upload video files (like home runs and school plays) to the person on the other end. Many cellphones come equipped with cameras that offer a video function, so you can watch those home runs and school plays as they occur and request the video later. Keep the videos on file and play them back as many times as you want.

Make a Satellite Connection
Connect your phone with your spouse’s phone via GPS so that they can automatically track your location. Most GPS tracking software can narrow the location of a single phone number down to a square block in real time. Because GPS tracking is live, phone numbers are invisible until powered up. You can time it by asking the program to search for a phone number, and to alert you when it’s visible again. Turn your phone on at the airport to let them know that you’ve landed. GPS tracking also enables users to track your exact route, whether you’re leaving the hotel or going back to it.

Create a Geography Lesson
Interaction is especially important for children. Hang a wall map at home and set up a time for engaging in age-appropriate educational activities via webcam. Work with your children and your spouse to find your location on the map and mark it off with a push-pin. Using string to chart your progress from pin to pin will not only reinforce domestic geography but will give your children a literal and physical guideline to show them where you’ve been and how you got there, step by step. Purchase gifts relevant to your location and mail them back home if you’re traveling for an extended period, or present them in person when you return.

Ready, Set, Video
If time zones or business needs prevent you from being able to set up a time with your family to chat via webcam, make a video when you do have time and send it to them via e-mail. It is important for spouses and children to understand that you think of them while you’re away, as your physical absence can lead to fears and doubts. Unless the situation warns against it, use comedy to lighten the mood a bit. Knowing that you can make your family smile from miles away is just as important to you as it is to them.

Poke, Tweet, Like — Get Social
As always, social networking platforms allow you to communicate with your family by posting messages that they can view in real time. Posting pictures of your destination, highlighted with important items, like the baseball you got in the mail, lets your family know that you’re not as far away as it seems, and impromptu texts like “I love you” and “see you soon” are always received warmly. Feel free to inundate loved ones with messages that let them know you care.

As one of the finest conservationist game reserves near Cape Town, Gondwana has gone from strength to strength in their attempts to bring about ecological balance to the Western Cape. Their efforts to reintroduce certain species of animals in the area is now finally yielding results, with the birth of their first two free roaming lion cubs being proof of this. Because lions had not occurred naturally in the Southern Cape for the last 150 years, the guys at Gondwana saw the need to reintroduce a species similar to the ones that roamed this area back then.

Through laborious research they found that lions with black manes from the Kalahari region were similar to those that roamed the Southern Cape and, with this great find, this Garden Route game reserve embarked on a mission to introduce a lion from the Kalahari. From the get go, his majestic appearance made him a sight for sore eyes, as his golden locks left the lionesses awestruck.

A few months later, one of the lionesses disappeared into the fynbos vegetation to give birth. After about six weeks, she emerged with two very healthy cubs jovially trailing behind her. For weeks on end, guides tried to catch a glimpse of the two new additions and finally one of the guides, Forget Ndlovu, snapped up a photograph of the two on the 23rd of November 2012. The cubs were seen enthusiastically pestering their mother and the rest of the pride above the den where most of the lions usually congregate.

Gondwana Game Reserve will continue to monitor the new born cubs, from the moment they start eating meat at about 3 months and when they’re weaned at 7 months, to the day they become mature males at 18 months and decide to either join the pride or start their own. Whatever their decisions will be, those interested in the events to ensue can rest assured that these two cubs are in the care of one of the best game reserves near Cape Town.

While most Americans have at least heard the term “timeshare,” a good number may not actually understand what this term means. A timeshare is, essentially, both an investment and a way to vacation. By purchasing a timeshare, a person buys a portion of a real estate property timeshare rentals vs hotel bookingthat they, in return, get to use for an equivalent portion of the year. Timeshares are mostly popular as vacation destinations as they allow a person and their family or friends to visit a hot vacation spot for an allotted period of the year. Generally, people purchase 1/52 of a share, allowing them a week every year at the location; however, you can purchase as much of a share as you’d like.

The Benefits of Timeshares

Purchasing a timeshare can be a large investment initially, making many people wary of it; however, there are many advantages to owning a timeshare, including:

  • More cost efficient over time – most people are aware of how expensive taking a vacation can be, as most vacations cost a family thousands of dollars, which can become a huge financial drain overtime. Timeshares, while they usually require a larger payment upfront, are more cost effective over time, a fact which many studies have proven.  Also, most timeshares have kitchen facilities so eating “at home” away from home saves even more money on vacation.
  • Can build a community – while there are certain timeshares that are isolated, many are in a resort or community where many other families and people vacationing also stay. Because of this and the fact that many people participating in a timeshare go on vacation at the same time every year, people are able to meet and get to know others on vacation at the same time, allowing them to potentially make lifelong friends.
  • More space – timeshares almost always offer much more space than hotel rooms. Whereas hotel rooms generally offer a bathroom and room, nearly all timeshares have multiple rooms, kitchens and bathrooms, in addition to a living room, kitchen, and outdoor space.
  • Less frustration during vacations – timeshares prevent the hassle of having to choose a place to go and where to stay when you vacation. As such, a timeshare allows vacationers to truly relax on a vacation from the very start.
  • Easier to travel with groups and children – due to the increased space that timeshares offer, it is much easier to travel in large groups or with children, as others can have their own room, allowing individuals to have space and separation when they need or want it.

There are many different ways to get a timeshare, including renting a resort vacation through HSI which gets rave reviews, or investing with your friends. Whichever route you choose, you are guaranteed to get a long-term investment that you can enjoy.
